Toolhead boards

CAN bus, USB, and passive toolhead boards — EBB, Nitehawk, H36, Hartk, and more.

About Toolhead Boards

Toolhead boards mount directly on your printhead to reduce wiring from a full harness down to just 4 wires (CAN bus) or a single USB cable. They integrate a stepper driver, accelerometer, fan outputs, thermistor inputs, and probe connections into a compact PCB. CAN bus boards communicate over a 2-wire differential bus and require a CAN bridge (like BTT U2C or Mellow UTOC). USB boards connect directly to your SBC with no bridge needed. Passive/breakout boards have no MCU and simply organize wiring through a connector.

Boards with USB passthrough can host additional USB devices at the toolhead such as Beacon or Cartographer eddy-current probes and nozzle cameras, eliminating extra cabling. Form factors include 36mm round (NEMA14), 42mm square (NEMA17), StealthBurner-specific 2-piece, and V0-specific designs.

CAN Bus STM32H723 LIS2DW12TR

BTT's flagship toolhead board, released mid-2026. It pairs an STM32H723 with a 20-pin FPC connector, so the toolhead can be wired with a single ribbon instead of a loom. All three fan ports are 4-wire with tachometer feedback, and the MAX31865 and 120R CAN termination are both onboard. Verified here from the official pinout diagram and Klipper example config.
